from the road.

Updated: Mar 16, 2021

I find such peace on the road. I could be driving for five, six, eleven hours and feel as content at the end as when I started. There's something about being forced to focus on one very specific task for hours on end that just takes me away from the stressors of normal life. Sure, there are other stressors of driving, but they hardly compare.

The drive to Colorado took longer than usual, but it was just as pretty as ever. We drove from 11pm California time until about 11:30am Colorado time the next day. We watched the sun rise over the horizon somewhere in Utah, and stopped at all of the scenic viewpoints once the sun was up. This one took my breath away.

We also stopped at what is apparently the world's largest Chevron station, with over 100 gas pumps and 70 restrooms. What?! It was giant. Jean, Nevada clearly has something to be proud of! Another highlight includes an exit for "Zzyzx, California." I spent a good amount of time trying to figure out how to pronounce the town's name. Turns out that it used to be called Soda Springs, California. I wonder what made them change it?

I'm excited to see where our Colorado travels take us.

Up first: Grand Junction, Adam's hometown.
